Concept :
"Essere Con" is a multidisciplinary group exhibition that explores the relationship between humans and nature. The idea is to move beyond the binary human-nature perspective that has dominated Western thought since the Enlightenment and the "modern age." This division is rooted in the Western philosophical tradition, which distinguishes between "intellect" and "emotion," between cultural "rationality" and the primordial, "natural" subconscious. Such dichotomies have become so deeply embedded in Western thought that they have taken on the role of ontological and epistemological orders that shape how we think about and study the world.
In our view, the human-nature binary lies at the heart of the current climate crisis. The natural world is perceived as an external entity, a resource to be extracted in the pursuit of progress, understood as linear growth from point A to point B. It is now clearer than ever that the planet cannot provide infinite resources, and the idea of perpetual growth will inevitably lead to social and environmental catastrophe. Rethinking our relationship with the natural world thus seems one of the few remaining alternatives. Sustainability cannot become a performative concept but must involve a much deeper, holistic shift capable of dismantling the structures of thought on which we have built the contemporary world.
Art has a special role in this quest, as a creative and innovative force. What better than art to challenge the certainties we have imposed on ourselves? The exhibition explores this theme, leaving more open questions than answers, culminating in the ever-present question of whether bridging this divide is an inevitably individual act or a necessarily collective one.
